Before transferring to Falk School (Falk) in sixth grade, Emma struggled to connect with others and often felt out of place at her previous school. At Falk, she found an environment where she felt accepted, supported and encouraged to grow. With guidance from the Falk-Rossler community, Emma became more comfortable seeking help when she needed it and working through several challenges. That support has contributed to significant academic and behavioral progress, including improved grades in math.
“I appreciate the kindness and patience of my teachers who take the time to explain things in a way that makes sense,” Emma said. “Ms. Hyatt and Ms. Lekki helped me become more comfortable interacting with others and building confidence in myself.”
Emma is also proud of the practical skills she has developed, including problem-solving, time management, scheduling and employability skills. These essential skills have prepared her for navigating life after graduation and becoming more independent.
One of the most meaningful lessons Emma has learned at Falk is that it’s okay to be yourself. She has developed strategies to manage challenging situations, de-escalate conflict and calm herself when things become overwhelming. Emma recognizes that learning not to make situations bigger than they need to be has helped her approach challenges differently.
“Every staff member here has made an impact on me in some way,” Emma emphasized. “Their support helped me recognize my own strengths and understand that I don’t have to face challenges alone. They’re always willing to help.”
After graduation, Emma hopes to attend veterinary technician school or pursue further education in small-animal veterinary care. Her advice to future Falk students is simple: “Do not be afraid to challenge yourself academically and never hesitate to ask for help when you need it.”
Emma’s journey is a reminder that impact goes beyond academic achievement; it begins with making students feel valued, understood and accepted. As Falk celebrates 40 years, Emma’s experience demonstrates how a sense of belonging can empower students to embrace who they are and confidently pursue their futures.
