Heather Mosher

Mrs. Heather Mosher is Falk School's Coordinator of Student Success, a newly developed role designed to support students in grades 9-12 by focusing on career readiness and connecting classroom learning and real-world experiences. For more than 28 years, Mrs. Mosher has been a valued and trusted member of Falk's counseling team. We invited her to share her perspective on the impact our school has had on the community and her personal experience. See her responses below.

Q: You’ve been part of the Falk community for more than 28 years. What first brought you to Falk and what has kept you here all these years?

A: When I first started at the Falk School as a recent college graduate, I knew two things for sure: I was bound for graduate school, and my heart was set on supporting children through counseling and psychology. Joining Falk was such an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience, collaborate with a supportive team, and serve a wonderfully diverse community. What has kept me here for 28 years, though, is truly the people. It is a profound privilege to walk alongside our students, families, and co-workers who inspire me and allow me to live out my calling every single day. Each day brings its own unique challenges, but above all, it brings unforgettable moments of joy.

Q: Looking back over your time at Falk, what are some of the biggest changes or moments of transformation you’ve witnessed?

A: When I first joined Falk School, our Cambridge high school program was modest in scale, just a couple handfuls of classes rotating among a small team of core content teachers. Watching us grow into a vibrant program with 24 high school homerooms and engaging electives like industrial arts and culinary arts has been an incredible journey. Now, in my new role, I'm thrilled to be expanding those horizons even further. We are opening doors for our students through hands-on career exposure and meaningful work-based learning experiences, helping them discover their passions and potential. I couldn’t be more excited for everything the future holds!

Q: Can you share a moment or experience from your time at Falk that reminds you why the work we do matters?

A: I have had many moments that remind me why the work we do is so important. One of those moments that stands out the most is from a student I worked with for several of his high school years. Early on, he struggled to regulate his emotions and was quick to push people away. Sometime during his senior year, he allowed us in. He decided that he wanted to be the driver of his story, not his past. He repaired relationships, actively engaged in counseling, graduated with honors, and was accepted into SUNY Buffalo. A couple of years later, he reached out to share that he was an active member of student government and about to embark on a semester abroad. There have been many stories like this one, and the true joy is when students realize they are not the sum of their past experiences, but of their future choices.

Q: After 28 years, what does Falk mean to you and what do you hope the next 40 years will bring for our students and our school community?

A: Falk means opportunity to me. For every student who walks through our doors, we provide a chance to embrace education, to embrace who they are, and to embrace their futures. Looking ahead, I hope the next 40 years bring even more rich, fulfilling experiences for our students, along with a school community that continues to welcome every child needing extra support and guides them to become active, contributing citizens of Western New York.
