Stanley G. Falk School recently held a heartfelt bench dedication ceremony in honor of beloved teacher, mentor and friend, Jennifer Hylkema. In her memory, a Buddy Bench has been placed in the halls of Roosevelt campus and will serve as a symbol of the compassion, connection and sense of belonging Jenn brought to the Falk community every day.
The ceremony featured a ribbon cutting and a moving speech from Superintendent Rachael Greene, who reflected on Jennβs deep understanding on the importance of reaching out to others. The Buddy Bench will serve as a safe and welcoming space where students and staff members can find a friend, share a moment of kindness or simply feel seen.
Jenn was known not only for her dedication to teaching, but also for the joy she brought into the lives of her students and colleagues. Her favorite phrase, βI had the best day with you today,β will be displayed near the bench as a daily reminder of her spirit and the love she so freely gave.
The event also included several meaningful activities, such as a Taylor Swift inspired bracelet-making station, games and a βPlant a Memoryβ station where attendees wrote messages on paper flowers expressing what they loved most about Jenn. These flowers will be placed in a vase by the bench to honor her lasting impact.
From her passion for the Buffalo Bills to her love of Taylor Swift, Jenn's vibrant spirit was felt in every corner of the room. Her memory will continue to inspire kindness and connection at Stanley G. Falk School β one friendship at a time.
